One of my resolutions this year to to “step it up a notch.” This applies to many, many things in my life.
Please watch the the following video from Parks and Recreation, literally the best comedy on network television, in order to get in the right mindset for “Step It Up.”
Ok…so are we on the same page? I think we are. Check it:
Step It Up 2012
Exercise…Step it up.
Blogging…Step it up.
Eating Healthy…Step it up.
Personal Appearance…Step it up.
Perhaps my project seems a little less awesome than Treat Yo Self, but I’m pretty damn excited about it.
To step up my exercise habits, I plan to try out Urth Yoga in Echo Park. A friend and I are going to take advantage of their introductory offer of one month unlimited for $49. Easy. DONE.
Blogging is obvious. I need to sit down and write posts. Which I am doing right here, right now. BOOM.
Eating healthy is a whole other thing. Over the past two years, my eating habits have deteriorated, and I want to get back to where I used to be, whole foods wise. I’m not gonna go crazy and restrict myself too much. I think that would just mess with my brain and cause me to eat even less healthy than I have been.
What I’ve decided to do is get a few books from the library to serve as inspiration for healthy meals. Instead of taking anything away, I’m going to simply add in healthy meals a little bit at a time. I genuinely like healthy food, so this will be enjoyable. I just got busy and lazy. It’s time to step it up.
Here are the books I’m getting from the library:
- Super Natural Cooking by Heidi Swanson
- Super Natural Every Day by Heidi Swanson
- Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr
- The 150 Healthiest 15-Minute Recipes on Earth
Personal Appearance…now this one is a toughie. The way I see it, I have several fairly significant things that need some attention. Now, I don’t need anyone saying, “oh…you don’t need to change a thing.” I appreciate it, but it’s not very helpful. It’s just that I’m 32, and in Los Angeles, so it’s time for a reassessment. Mostly, it’s just time to Step. It. Up. I guess that means that this post is going to be the first in a series while I determine what I want to bring into my life. I’m going to be looking around for inspiration for hair, bags, shoes, boots, clothes and accessories. This will also help me step up my blogging. Two birds, baby! Two birds.
For now I’ll leave you with two cute photos that mark the starting point for this adventure.

AHHHH that’s one of my favorite Parks & Rec scenes! I’m completely in love with Aziz Ansari. When I saw him on my old porch a couple summers ago, I died. Also one of my fav scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXhsUPtsiLU
Also, I love that outfit. Who knew boots with shorts could be so cute…
