I am utterly smitten with these doors.

One thing that really irks me is when people use the word “porn” to describe something that isn’t actually porn. Food porn, design porn, etc…it’s just not something I find clever or amusing. HOWEVER, I’ve decided to make an exception for Free Cabin Porn. Because if I can’t be in a cabin right now, at least I can fantasize about it.

A while back I found a great post by Miss Moss about Siobhan Frost’s Slanted Mansion, a site dedicated to photographing the natural, un-styled spaces of creative people all over the world.

This morning, over a delicious cup of coffee, I’ve finally been able to take the time bask in these wonderful creative spaces. I love getting a little glimpse into people’s lives and processes, and I’m pretty much obsessed with the work spaces of creative types. This obsession likely stems from the fact that Sean and I are trapped in a tiny one bedroom apartment while starting up our business. It’s very crowded in here — I swoon at the thought spreading out in a workspace of our very own.

My favorite space featured is from the wooden toy makers and artists, Gonzalo Arbutti and Matias Resich. Their set up is ideal for me…lots of airy covered outdoor space, great storage, and beautiful blues and greens. Also, there is a kitty cat. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Now I want more. Let’s hope Siobhan Frost is busy out there taking more photos of wonderful spaces.

I’ve got summer on the brain. Biking. Camping. Canoeing. Swimming. Campfires. Hot summer nights.

I want all of it right now!

Making the Most of Small Spaces

by kella on January 11, 2012

in decor, design, home

I’m always interested in how urbanites (or those of us who live in, ahem, “cozier” dwellings) make the most of their small spaces. Free People recently posted some great photos of some apartments in Brooklyn and Manhattan. It seems to go one of two ways–either minimal white walls with pops of color (my favorite) or people who manage to fill their spaces to the brim and still make it seem cozy and fashionable.

pentagonal house

I don’t know what it would actually be like to live in this space, but from the photographs, I find this house absolutely stunning. There is something about the archways meeting in the middle that has my heart racing and my insides all tumbl-y. That is a good thing.

The Pentagonal House is by Kazuya Morita Architecture Studio, and is in Tsushima, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
