Real talk, I have probably had every hair color known to man. I have been blonde, blue, red, black, you name it. I used to have no problem dyeing my hair a completely different color or just chopping it off when I was bored (or heartbroken, angst-ridden, what have you). Now that I’ve gotten older, perhaps I’ve gotten less adventurous. I prefer to think that I’ve grown into myself and have found my own style. Recently though, I’ve had this itch… in all of my favorite blogs, magazines, runway shows, everyone has bright or pastel colored hair and I. WANT. IN. Problem : my headshots are blonde, blonde, blonde–and so blonde I must remain.
I recently found a few temporary hair tricks for the 9-to-5′ers, commitment-phobes, and other fashion timid folk. (Myself included).
The most commonly proposed solution is to take a hair piece, bleach the bottom, dye the tips, and clip or sew it in. I thought this was friggin awesome until I went to buy a weave (a crappy one at that) and it was like $120. Sorry, can’t justify that. That’s a month of groceries for me. I didn’t know that Sally’s sold anything over $30. Wrong-o. BUT, if you do have the financial leg-room (I don’t) and you are a capable hair dye-er (I am), its kinda perfect.
Et voilà.

And then, the other day, Marianne introduces me to this beauty blog called The Beauty Department and, lo and behold, I found the solution I’ve been waiting for! Temporary, easy, and noncommittal, here are instructions on how to “chalk” your hair. It’s cheap, easy, and washes out. No weaving or dying necessary.

You can find the very thorough instructions here.
Who wants to come over and have an eighth grade sleepover and chalk their hair with me!? I’ll bring the chalk and you bring the peach schnapps from your parents’ liquor cabinet.
